I like to do things the hard way.

I’m pissed that schools don’t teach cursive, I still hand write cards and I worry that my children’s generation will lack culture and finesse.  They all spend too much time texting and on Facebook.  And then I see something like this…

and I stand corrected.  I’m inspired.

“Humanity’s greatest desire is to belong and connect.  And now we see each other, we hear each other.”  That has never been more possible than it is today.

The generation below me is…efficient and they’re fast.  They’re global and while they may not actually travel and they may in fact spend too much time in front of the computer, they are effecting change in mass numbers.

I saw an interview with Jason Russell, the film maker and co-founder of Invisible Children.  He stated that many of the world’s problems are complex and require complicated solutions sort of like algebra or precalculus , but that Joseph Kony is 1+1…he’s someone we can all agree needs to be stopped.

Instead of looking at the world and saying that there are so many issues, politics is a mess and there’s nothing we can do, this man took one story, one problem and he set out to make a change.  The people that listened to him, the 50 million plus viewers of his documentary…most of them are 25 years old and younger.

My daughter came home a few months ago.  Jason Russell had come to her school to discuss Invisible Children and ways that youth can impact the world.

She was so full of energy and told us about her day.  Michael and I both listened and encouraged, but in the back of our older minds we both sort of wrote it off as another “humanitarian” effort.

We were happy she was inspired, hell we were once too, but the reality is for the most part nothing ever gets solved and we have the same issues we had twenty years ago, right?

A friend of mine asked me yesterday if I’d herd of Kony 2012.  I watched the video and didn’t make the connection, at first.  I showed it to my daughter and she said, “I told you about this month’s ago.  It’s changing the world.”

Simple.  Just like that.  Changing the world one post or tweet, gramatically correct or not, annoying LOL or :), at a time.

Tonight I have hope.  Our world is not going in the toilet, it’s changing and moving forward.  While we may loose some of our accouterments, if the end result is efficiency and connection with the world around us then tweet away.
