Penny Loafers

“I would hate to be a lucky penny on the street today.”  ~Maggie Ewens

She has a way of looking at the world, outside of herself, questioning and really seeing things.

It’s hot.  We live in Arizona and it’s July…it’s hot and it doesn’t matter if it’s a dry heat at this point.

Arizona is my home, but I do have moments that I curse it during these months.  The car seat burns my legs, things always feel sweaty and even though it looks beautiful outside, we are slaves to air conditioning.

Most of my whining centers around individual discomfort or the fact that I can’t leave anything in the car because it will cook.

But Maggie…Maggie’s walking into a restaurant in the nasty heat, she looks down at the ground, sees a penny and realizes that it’s worse to be a poor lucky penny on a hot day. She’s just as hot as I am, but the penny needs the rescuing.

She picked up the penny, danced it in her hands to cool it off and tucked it into her pocket.

Moments like this she sparkles.  I’m a better person just being near her and she teaches me to look.  Look around and see outside myself.  I can not imagine life without her.
