Trunks

You know when trees arc over a street and join at the top like interlaced hands?  When they create a canopy and the street turns into a sort of tree tunnel, but with sparkly peek a boo leaves above?

I like that.

Trees endure, change with the elements or things we humans put in their way.  Trees keep growing, they are amenable.  I like that about them.  Maybe it’s because they have good roots, they are buried deep in the earth.  Maybe that gives them peace to go with the flow.  I’m not sure, but I can not imagine the world without trees.

I would miss them.

There are things in life that are essential and then there are bonuses.  Trees are both. Clean air, wind blowing through branches, fall leaves, shade, shelter, the smell of a pine forrest, even the crackle of fire that provides warmth on a frigid day.

Trees are knotty, chopped and carved into, twisted with age and yet they still regrow, stand tall.  It’s as if they know their purpose, they know it is about something bigger than themselves.

No wonder Shel Silverstein wrote The Giving Tree.  Trees are special and I’m grateful for them today.

My thoughts from the laundry room.  Rest Here A While.
