Light Load

Three light bulbs burned out in the laundry room a couple of weeks ago.

I flipped the switch, they flashed, made that zappy sound and out they went.  I have recessed lights, so they are the big ones with the flat tops.  They’re pretty expensive to replace.  I find it annoying every time we have to buy them because they come in a big box and…well, that’s not the point of the post.  We normally have a few in the cabinet above the sink, but I checked.  Nothing.

I was a little pissy and mumbling about the chances of all three going out at once.  I’m pretty sure there was a “just my luck” thrown in there somewhere.  Then I went indignant and told myself I didn’t have time for these stupid bulbs and they would just have to wait.  I was not replacing them right this minute, so there.

I went to the store that weekend and forgot to buy bulbs.  A week later, I was tiding up and the burned out bulbs starting bugging me again.  I needed more light over the washer and dryer.  I actually moved the bulbs around and put the dead ones in an area that didn’t matter.  Better, it looked better.

There are six bulbs total in the laundry room.  It’s been almost three weeks now that I’m functioning at half capacity and…I’m sort of liking it.  The light is softer, at night it’s moody and in this light, the laundry seems friendlier.

When the bulbs first burned out I was grumpy, inconvenienced, one more thing to do, but now I think I’ll just move them around again and see what happens.

I suppose it’s all how you look at things.

My thoughts from the laundry room.  Dim the Lights.
