The last day of 2021 deserves a blog post.
Actually, 2021 was a real bitch and deserves nothing, but here goes.
Endings are sometimes a party, but they are often tricky. The world lost Betty White today. OG move crossing to the other side on the last day of the year, but also difficult for those of us left behind without her next hilarious quote or show-stealing role to brighten 2022.
By all accounts, Betty White lived an extraordinary life complete with an accomplished career, a love story, and the ability to find humor in nearly everything. I doubt she was perfect, and I’m sure she had struggles, but she lived. She hit the finish line looking forward, and for that alone, I took to her for wisdom.
New years are a mixed bag. So much promise and even more pressure to organize more, achieve more, be present and plan. Lord, if you figure that last one out, give yourself a gold star.
I have carefully turned the first page of new planners for many years now, only to curse the half-empty pages by St. Patrick’s Day. I need to unsubscribe to things. I need to clean up my desk and write an intention for January, get my water bottle ready to drink more water, and vow to be in bed no later than 10:15 PM.
I have dreams and improvements and lots to do, but for now, I’ll finish this post, make a cup of tea, and make a list of the things I did well this year instead of my shortfalls. It will be a short list, but I will find my good in 2021, even if it’s just a Post-It.
Betty White once said, “I know it sounds corny, but I try to see the funny side and the upside, not the downside. I get bored with people who complain about this or that. It’s such a waste of time.”
So, come on, 2022, let’s go. I may not accomplish any of the goals I’ve set for you, but I will do my best to keep Betty in my heart the whole year through.
My thoughts from the laundry room. Golden Hour.
