This post will be reminiscent of that co-worker who brought in the gift wrap catalog for her child’s school fundraiser, or possibly the crazy Girl Scout cookie mom.
For those of you not yet in the workforce, this post will feel like that friend who always asks you to like every Instagram picture of her cat. Believe me, it’s necessary, I apologize and you’ve been warned.
I have entered the lead up to the release of my second novel. It should be out by the end of the year, but since miracles don’t often happen, January or February of next year seems more likely. I currently have 156 wonderful people that follow my blog. They read me, laugh at me and with me. I’m overflowing with gratitude that they even care and sometimes comment or share part of their world with me. Apparently 156 people is not a lot of followers. I notice every person that pushes that button, from my very first (my husband) to Ron and Eric that joined me just this week.
Forty-two people follow my Facebook author page. I recall only having five likes, so forty-two also seems like a lot to me, but apparently there are authors with thousands of followers/likers. In a nutshell, I need more “like”.
Publishing being what it is, I have to be a badass to even compete. I need more readers, more likers, more followers. I know, it sounds needy and annoying because…it is. It’s the nature of the beast.
If you are out there and you like anything about me or my writing, anything at all really, please first follow this blog or like me on Facebook. If you already have shown me the love, please encourage others to like me at my author page on Facebook and/or follow this blog.
Oh boy, this really feels a lot like when I tried out for the volleyball team in high school and they asked me if I would be interested in being the manager instead.
If everyone brings a friend or two into our little party that could double my “audience exposure” and “broaden my readership”. It will make my publisher jump for joy and that jump will allow me to continue doing what I love…writing.
I’m pretty sure this is not what they had in mind when I was asked to “promote myself and create value”. There was something in there about a comprehensive marketing plan, but I thought I would start off by simply asking.
So, if you wouldn’t mind, please “give me a shout out”, tweet me, like me, Instagram me (is that possible?), link me, pin me, do whatever you think will get the word out that I’m here and I write. Also, please invite your family, friends, people you meet at the dry cleaner, to do the same.
In return, I promise not to post inspirational quotes, my exercise schedule or anything ten times a day. I will strive to be mildly entertaining, and if it will help I may be able to score some lollipops as give aways. While you are out there showing me the love, I’ll get right to work on that comprehensive whatchamacallit.
Thanks for reading and sharing your time with me.
That’s all from the laundry room. We Need a Bigger Bed.
