Albert Einstein said, “Out of clutter, find simplicity.  From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”

Michael always says, “There is a yin and a yang for everything.  You can’t have good without bad, we’d never appreciate the good or even recognize it.”

I’m certainly not comparing Michael to Einstein.  Although they share errant hair, I’m pretty sure Michael got a C in physics.  What they are both saying is the gist of my post.  It’s an interesting concept.  Good and bad, mess and order.

I learned pretty early on that bad things are temporary.  I knew if I got enough sleep and worked hard to watch what slipped out of my mouth, most things would pass.  It’s not easy to see the ugly in life as fleeting, especially when you are neck deep, but I can usually get past the fog.

Happiness, on the other hand, I have never imagined as temporary and that has occasionally led to longing and unnecessary disappointment.  When I am happy, I tend to think it will last forever and only recently it’s clear to me that joy, good times, ease and merriment ebb and flow too.  There is no need to try and extend or make moments of splendor last forever because it is not possible.  They will pass too.

The good and the bad feed, even enhance, each other.  If you listen to Einstein and Michael, that’s the way it has to be, that’s the design.

I’ll not spend my time anticipating the clutter and the ugly, but I’ll be ready, I’ll wade through.  I will make an effort to bask in happiness and comfort without squeezing too tight.

The new year will see me work to appreciate the full circle because it seems to have carried us this far.
