Today is the 4th of July. Independence Day for the United States of America.

My youngest daughter was taking pictures of anything and everything today and she happened to take a picture of a vase of flowers. Instead of taking a picture of the flowers she photographed the stems in the vase. I looked at the picture and congratulated her on looking at the details and finding beauty in the less obvious place. She said, “The flowers were not very pretty, but the stems were so I focused on them.”

Today is the day we celebrate our independence. I have spent so many years feeling disenchanted with American policy. But today I am looking at the stems. We live in a beautiful country. It is in the details. We are a kind and giving nation filled with so many people that work hard and give back. A country is not just it’s politics, especially in our country it is about our people. Every country has moments when their flowers are not so pretty. Look at the stems!

Happy 4th of July!!!

That is all from the laundry room tonight!

Look up at the Stars!!
